View Full Version : [LFRP] Looking for Arch-Nemesis

Fynne
10-10-2008, 12:44 PM
Character: Henri Fynne (http://wow-tng.org/showthread.php?t=6515)

Description: Henri Fynne is a human swordsman who hides his insecurities behind a façade of swashbuckling and panache. He believes in fairy tale morality, a very black and white, good vs. evil dichotomy of the world, and tries his best to emulate what a fairy tale hero would do. Along with frequently falling short of this goal and learning lessons and morals from his failures along the way, Fynne exhibits several other archetypal hero flaws, including crippling weaknesses such as his warlock runes, personality flaws such as his womanizing, and a knack for becoming incompetent enough to get into trouble while similarly becoming uncannily competent to get himself back out.

Looking for: An Archenemy. A Newman to my Seinfeld; a Joker to my Batman; a Hook to my Peter Pan; a Dr. Evil to my Austin Powers… ok, I’ll stop. I’m looking for someone to play a very specific kind of arch-villain to Henri Fynne. In keeping with theme, the villain should be able to be thwarted (but not defeated), should be reasonably competent (while employing henchmen that are decidedly not so), be able and willing to capitalize on Fynne’s weaknesses (for example, if they were to take the warlock route, they would either be a warlock or have a subordinate who was), and be reasonably threatening.

The player should be well-versed in the nuances of arch-villains ranging from literary nemeses to pop culture cartoon bad guys. Ideally, any storylines resulting from our interactions should conclude with a clear ‘moral’ learned.

Also? Ability and propensity to monologue is a must.

Restrictions: No shades of gray villains, please. This isn’t to say that I’m looking for only orphan-puppy torturing archenemies; a villain can be mischievous and wicked without being over-the-top insane or cruel.

Level of RP desired: Depending on the nature of the villain, this could range from tongue-in-cheek 80s cartoon nemesis (Ren vs. Bloth in The Pirates of Dark Water) to very involved, dark and psychologically disturbing antagonist (Batman vs. Joker in The Dark Knight).

Misc. notes: If your villain happens to be a hot pirate chick, warlock, and/or hot pirate warlock chick, you may have to clear any potential classic ‘prisoner being interrogated’ story arcs with my wife. All joking aside, if you think that you might be inclined to use Fynne's womanizing against him (ala James Bond villains), that should probably be cleared beforehand so that awkward situations don't arise from it.

I do have my good ol' forsaken warlock Moiras, with no established RP personality or story, so if nobody takes you up on your request I'll offer him. It sounds fun, and since I've written comic books and D&D adventures, I'm well versed in the kind of villany you're looking for.

I'm disappointed you didn't talk to me first! But Q is not a hot pirate chick, and Q may be too serious business/narcissistic to actually care about expending effort thwarting Fynne's every move.

However, for the occasional episodic villain, I'd be glad to volunteer!

And you so know I can monologue!

We really should expand upon the rivalry that the Raven Cross and First Legion has, or even make it more specifically a rivalry between Fynne and Dio. I never really considered them to be "arch-nemesi" (New word!) simply because Dio CAN actually respect Fynne as far as picking his battles and fighting them well.

Perhaps something closer to Catwoman to your Batman. Only without the sexual tension.

Who're you kidding Dio. ; ) You know Dio wants to run his fingers through that sweet beard.

I am not sure if you are still looking for an 'enemy' of sorts, but the prospect of ideas has me decidedly interested. We have had a few altercations in the past, the most recent of which involved Elanderik organizing an ambush (he had 'recruited' several members of The Raven Cross to attempt it) for both Fynne and Jilliane off the shores of Quel'danas... one that ultimately led to the guard-whacking of Jilliane while he casually walked free as the Shattered Sun looked away.

I'm not sure what became of Fynne or The Raven Cross people specifically, and on that note, Elek simply didn't care to find out either. I think you managed to kill one or two, but to him, they were hardly more than a few 'henchmen' thrown at Fynne as Elanderik waited for an opportunity to deliver a blow upon the Alliance... which in this case, turned out to be by pursuing Jilliane to her 'death' under the careful manipulation of the Shattered Sun's laws.

Elanderik Que'tinasi (or Elek Quentin) is in all regards, a fallen paladin. With the destruction of the Sunwell, the 'vampiric' turns to sustain his addiction, along with the (previously) extreme ideology of the Blood Knight order, his perceptions upon good and evil have faded, becoming replaced with a concern that focuses more upon Law over Chaos, despite the means to achieve it. To him, what is "good" and what is "evil" is all a matter of who you ask. What may be considered evil by one person, may well be deemed as good by the next. The history books are written by the victors in war, and no true villains will say they are the 'bad guy'. They all have a plan, some ideology, some great 'final solution' ( o.O ) as to how to "solve the problems of [the world, society, whatever]". In their eyes... they believe they are trying to make things better, and that these people running around trying to stop them are the true enemies.

There is little to no consideration for the toes he steps upon during the advancing of his goals. His holds the firm and unwavering belief that everything he does is "for the better of Quel'thalas" (or the Sin'dorei in general). "Glory to Quel'thalas though -any means necessary-." It is this view and belief that defines his morality towards an 'evil' standpoint. In his mind, the original mandates and ideology of the Blood Knight order (before Liadrin left to see A'dal and change her entire point of view) exists above all else; there is no price too steep .

This is also not the only time he has worked against Fynne! Nymare, whom I know you to have had numerous dealings with (and just so happens to be a warlock... and a woman!), had come to Elek seeking advice and instruction on how to "kill a paladin," specifically Jilliane. For hours they discussed and practiced over the matter of weaknesses and vulnerabilities, tailoring a manner of attack that coincided with her preferred abilities of which she could use against her. While, as before, I am not sure as to the specifics of what happened at the eventual encounter, I believe Nymare retrieved a certain belonging and fared markedly better than in her previous engagement.

Elek is prideful and egotistical. Jabs at either of these can serve as a quick way to taunt him, sometimes to the extent of making careless mistakes (such as forgetting key basics in fighting rogues *cough*). He has a wrathful side to him, and will even go to the extreme of great personal expense to 'get even' with those who transgress against him (I've respecced and even paid people just to 'return a favor' on someone who's annoyed me). With these, he also has a great fear of feeling insignificant. Liadrin's change in direction (which I'm playing as if she has left him no orders what-so-ever since, though check out the Journal for more info on this) has, for the most part, left him feeling useless. He is eager and searching for any way that is even remotely describable as beneficial to Quel'thalas as an effort to tide this sensation over. He would either be looking for a fight (the bigger or more high profile the better), or searching for a 'pupil' to take under his wing to build up as an instrument to further the Sin'dorei ideals (been trying to 'snag' Nymare in this regard).

Anyhow, I am curious as to your thoughts. Monologues and other verbal interactions would obviously have to be done over ventrillo or another medium such as AIM/YIM/MSN, though that much is pretty much understood in the horde vs alliance bit. Please feel free to comment back on here or through a Private Message!

On a side note... I already have a 'colorful' history with First Legion!

Well, considering that Fynne's already on Selash's bad side (along with Jillianne), you could consider him a nemesis of sorts, especially since Sel's idea of justice throws the whole fairy-tale morality thing right out the window. He believes more in personal justice rather than a grand set of rules that define what's right and what isn't. Selash is also ruthless in getting what he wants, and he'll go through whatever means necessary to achieve his goals, including kidnapping, torture, blackmail and nearly every other dirty trick in the book you can think of. He's a bounty hunter after all, and he loves getting paid.

That and I love cross-faction RP, so I'm definitely interested.
