I'm surprised there isn't a thread about this yet.

Yesterday (wednesday July 19th) evening, a large, organized army of blatant rp-bashers created characters and stormed Westfall and Stormwind. Names cush as Raidleader, lolptrisdwn, imhereforraid, lolrpsux, waitnfrptr, lolraidrp, and so on were on mass during this organized harrassment-assault. In fact, they even had their own guild called "We Hate RPrs." Sure they were all level 1's and 2's, but this was a blatant, organized assault of harassment towards the roleplaying community of Venture Co. In fact, once players in Westfall realized what was happening (we were all reporting names, and realized the mass zerg of rp-haters) and we spouted off about "I think it's a direct assault on roleplayers" and such, God himself spoke to us.

[3. LocalDefense]<GM>GMname: "We are aware of the situation."

(I can't remember his name) That was the first time I had seen a GM speak on a public channel. And that's when everyone ralized "Whoa. GM's must be pissed."

Also, my very large and growing name violation list ticket I had mysteriously disappeared. I believe since there were so many, they cleared em.

In any case, I hope these blatant harassers get banned. And I know some players who said "Hopefully this will give a wake up call to Blizzard." Take that quote however you want.

This situation reminds me once again the difference between the RP community and the l33t community. One group is mature and the other group is all a-holes. I'll let you figure out which is which.

It might not have been a GM. People can make it look like a GM is posting by putting very many spaces in a line, and then typing out that sort of message to trick people. Unless, there was no empty space above it, and several other people saw the same thing across their own channels.

I promise it was a GM. I shift+clicked the name and it said <GM>Name. I shoulda screenshotted, but I didn't even think about it. I was too steamed about the situation to think straight.

Well, no one mentioned the dead Orc at the entrance to Northshire Abbey named "Nlgga"? I reported this one already. They haven't answered the ticket yet, but that's one majorly bad name in comparison to the ones you've already mentioned...even if this wasn't an RP server.

I'm not sure if the "N|gga" situation was related to the organized rp assault or not. But, everything the whole "rpH8ter army" did was in violation of the realm's policies. Naming and player harassment in general.

I'm sure the V-co GMs had a fit.

they need to do something to get rid of all the friddin children that ruin the rp-pvp servers... there should be automatic word filters in the servers to get rid of leet speak and stupid type like r, u, urs, plz, kthx, etc... i hate that shit so much...

I got a nice reply from a GM today by the name of Cathnee...I think, I'm half asleep here and about to crash. She did give a sad face and say that she just came on to learn about the mess that was made of Elwynn and that they're dealing with it. I'm sure it's not the best start to her GM day, but...we're rootin' for her to get to work!

For my money, a 48 hr suspension isnt enough for these perps.. This wasn't some individual isolated infraction against an RPer, this was a server assault, plain and simple. As an IT security wonk, I would in fact categorize it in the same way I would a server spam attack or Denial of Service attack.

It was an organized character spam of an RP server for no other purpose than to create havok.

If I were working at Blizz, I would work towards identifying the characters that were created in that time period on the server, isolate the obvious ones that were part of this incident, and either suspend those player accounts indefinitely, or hit them where they will really feel the pain; delete their main characters from their accounts.

That should get the message sent loud and clear. Let them scream at Blizz after that to get their main toons restored AFTER they can prove they werent part of the zerg..

Hardball..

I guess for some people, the only way to get the big brass ones they've always wanted, is through internet anonymity.

I seriously hope this IS a wake-up call for Bliz, not only on how much of a target RPers are for griefers, but also that their current system of punishment is inadequate.

48 hour ban? feh, it's a mark of pride for some of them. Heck, I've been away for more than 48 hours, big deal. More permanent punishments for griefing please.
