THAT'S what had gave me the idea! We were talking about defending the Horde and my going an elemental PvP spec in Wrath rather than Resto, and I'd done the big speech about there needing to be somebody on the front lines to protect the horde - followed by the patriotic pose and comment about buying Raven Cross war bonds.

That was driving me insane. I really couldn't remember what triggered the need to do this - I just got the idea and HAD to follow through.

As for your question, I WAS going to save this, but I just needed to share it. I love how it turned out.

The Troll salute sucks, I might add. There's one thing that all (most of the Male) Horde have in common and that's the fact that they kinda pump their chest in some fashion. Even Forsaken kinda do it. EXCEPT TROLLS. They look more like they are threatening to slit your throat and then hang you.

Besides. I was going more for sticking true to the theme than I really was going for having cameo's of people in the guild in the image... so no cackling Troll. So suck it up, maggot! :P

I've actually gotten that from a few people so far, I'm glad everybody seems to really like it. I'm still not happy with the shading though, but given that it's my first time using solid black alone to shade, it probably turned out okay...

And how could I not put a Tauren up front? XD

Here. (http://www.photoshopstar.com/effects/add-texture-to-improve-artwork/) This was the tutorial I did last semester in my course that creates the paper effect in the picture. I used two separate stock paper images - one for the grungy look on the outer edges of the sheet and the other for the actual crease down the middle. The tutorial goes through the very basics into getting the effect. Without it, images are a lot more bland.

I also created a displacement map to make the image actually look like it is "moving" with the paper, and it's also a very easy way to make text look grungy. That's easy to do. Just take your overlaid textures as described in the image above, merge them all down, desaturate them and save the result as a lone .psd file. Then you can use Displace under Filter/Distort/Displace, and loading up the displacement map that you just made to push the colours around.

You can also use an alpha map to further define the lighting of the texture, but I didn't do that in this image because it won't work in CMYK and it's paper so it's meant to be flat and unreflective.

Vector illustrations are easy as pie after two or three tries at Illustrator and an understanding of the endlessly useful Pen tool.

It's actually very easy to do, but difficult to master. The paper effect and everything really makes this image. It takes the focus away from the terrible shading on the Tauren and puts it instead on that immediate eye-catching effect of digital paper. It makes the image look real and believable, so your mistakes or inconsistencies and imperfections aren't noticed - they make it look real.

EDIT: And I'm happy to announce that my request for the ability for this to be available for prints has been accepted! Woot! Hopefully my print will arrive in a few days!

Its definatly a nice new approach to a recruiting poster, thats for sure. As well as bringing up old designs from the 40-60s with that blocky section by section graphical edge.

It's a reference to Illidan and his famous quote from the Burning Crusade trailer. Only the Raven Cross never existed back then. So they're prepared for Wrath of the Lich King instead.

Oh, it doesn't bother me at all. That's just the Trolls salute. I don't have an issue with it because it's just their salute. If I thought it looked silly because of something I did? I'd not release the image at all. X3

I kinda think the "blood spatter" looks a bit like someone had one of his prophetic nosebleeds over the page before he stuck the banner up ; ) -- But it looks good :D Now all we really need is someone to get on those Cheesecake posters for the ladies in RavenCross.
