View Full Version : Roleplaying Sterotypes

The Dumb, strong, reckless, raging Orc warrior.
The Vile, shadowy, tormenting, revenge-seeking Forsaken Rogue.
The Tree-hugging, "love the wilds", peace keeping Night Elf Druid.
The "Glory for the light", righteous, do-good Human Paladin.
Examples like this I find actually rare. Everyone wants to be something unique and different, yet I find playing these sterotypes more fun. Plus, I find these sterotypes more rare than most other things. Togron and blooscream are the only two Orcs I know that play the ritualistic "dumb" Orc.
My point is, these sterotypes have become a dying breed, but for some reason, I find them more enjoyable.
Any thoughts?

I do play stereotypes alot but not from a western angle. I guess that makes them unqiue. But Hifazat is a complete and utter stereotype. Sipah my paladin was as well.
I love playing stereotypes from different backgrounds and regions around the world. I play Hifazat like a Maoist rebel in Nepal or a Tamil Tiger. Ruthless and crazy.
Sipah was the typical embodiment of what muslims call mujahids.

My Paladin is a Dudley Do Right. He won't even group with a Warlock and frowns on Shadow spec'd Priests.

I don't think I've ever played a stereotype before.
I'll have to try it, sometime.

Just to clarify- Theres nothing wrong with not playing sterotypes, It's just gotten to the point where it's more unusual to play what most would think the "usual" thing is.

As for the rogue, though, I think that's safely covered. =P
That and power-hungry undead warlocks.
In great abundance.
No idea about Alliance-side stereotypes, though, because Venture Co. is the only Alliance I've played; drunken dwarves are in great abundance, there, as well. XP

IFR lives the dwarven stereotype
Hairy, sweety, drunk, barbaric dwarves!
Hrmm... I have a Tree-hugging, "love the wilds", peace (through anahilation *cough*) keeping Night Elf rogue.
My orc isn't dumb, although her parents are peons.
My undead is basically one giant scardy-cat and avoids combat like the plague. (Not very well, obviously. *eyeroll*)
I've played sterotypical characters before and I find it fun. Although most people do try to be different. When enough people try to be different in the same way, BAM! New sterotype. See: Lusty Paladin.

Yeah, Dread mist never seems to drop...
I got Fel heart Bracers an dGloves, but no Dread Shoulders pants or helm...
Odd really...
And MY lock is very sterotyped..
She is mad, Powerhungry and evil..
Hell, I had half the server after me at one point...
((Half Server == half RPers on server))

What has become as much of a stereotype, and which I've seen from time to time, is the character who's unique among his evil race (this is true in WoW and elsewhere).
For example, the Forsaken who is really a nice, sun-and-flowers sort who only wants to spread happiness and understanding and not be misunderstood because of her race.
I blame R.A. Salvatore and Drizz't for this particular type of roleplayer :)

Something I've always wanted to do was to take a stereotype so far that it became something new and absurd. Like a paladin who firmly and happily believed that he was just and right and good, but on a Detect Evil spell would show up as the blackests of dark and evil because he never seemed to notice that his noble actions had horrible, horrible consequences. Like setting fire to a demonic grimoire and buring down an orphanage in the process.
Kind of difficult to pull that off in WoW, but I'm trying!

Chingaso is not dumb. Chingaso is limited by his vocabulary. He's actually quite intelligent. (So I assume.)

I actually made a character like that a while back on an alternate server; very Crusader-like paladin, fanatical.
Never got past level 5. Because I hate paladins. XP

Paladins < Locks
Only bonus is Cleanse, it does help tons on Geddon...
But locks are more fun

I play Huffy as a typical Dwarf, I almost always have several slots of booze handy and I chug one or two during a RP conversation. But no one has ever seem to notice. I don't know if others just expect that kind of behavior.

And I try to KILL Huffy as a typical dwarf. In AV, I think it was yesterday, on the crossroads between Iceblood Graveyard and Tower point, I caught sight of you lone on the road and you stopped and looked at me. I was like "oooo! It's going to be a traditional duel! This is fantastically awesome!!" Then you turned and fled around the corner... and I followed... and got torn apart by 98374034 waiting Alliance.
Is it typical for Dwarves to run like sissies?! XD

What is the stereotype for trolls?
Nasty, seedy, filthy, cannabalistic people. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
