View Full Version : Elf Eyes

Alright, so I seem to recall Blood Elves having red eyes for some reason. However, in Burning Crusade, it looks like they have green eyes.
Am I going crazy? Does anyone else remember them having red eyes?
I do preffer red eyes, it makes the whole "Blood Elf" title seem more fitting. Green eyes just makes them look... uhm..... "tralala" I believe is the term?
What do ya'll think?

I think they look better with green eyes. It gives some balance away form the overwhelming amount of red with the whole "Blood" part of their name. Plus, it shows their dependence on demonic energies (usually expressed with green).

Well, they draw heavily upon fel energies, energy that almost always has a bright green color to it. The fel orcs are another example of this, see? Green eyes...

There's a strong possibility that you'll have at least a couple different options in eye color. At least with the current races, the eye color sometimes changes with the toon's face. Could be the same way with the new races too.

Hopefully they won't go down the road of the Night Elves, who all look like they have the headlights from a Camaro stuck in their face.
As far as the face selections, I hope they reflect a more stereotypical "Horde" type look. Darker features, sharper eyes, The need to reflect the essence of the Horde.

I dunno.. I have associated green glows with evil ever since I read the Thomas Covenant series.
I tend to agree the green glowing eyes offsets the general reddish hue surrounding the Blood Elves. If they had red glowing eyes they would remind me too much of Wonder Man.

I have to agree. I think that red glowing eyes would look a little off, but that could be because I'm used to the green ones. Still, I like the way Blood Elves turned out, overall. The -only- problem I have is the "light-stealing" thing, at in the grand scheme of things, it's pretty minor. So meh, I'm looking foward to it!

I've allways kind of wondered about the glowing eyes bit. It's really nifty and dramatic to have glowing/firey/sparking/PEW PEW PEW lazorz!/frost/whatever eyes. It can feel really cool to have just the pair of eyes staring out from under the hood, or watching in from the dark... until every one, there dog and there grandma have creepy glowing eyes of doom. I see people go on with their eyes and think "ho hum. Another death gaze."
But I'm off topic. My point origionally, that never got started, was that I don't think that the eyes glow the way they're portrayed in the game. Watch the intro cinema, particularily the Night Elf scene. Her eyes don't glow, they flash reflected moonlight. Only for a brief moment. And look at the Forsaken, you can't really see his, but they actually weren't glowing. (Watch the making of DVD if you can get a hold of it. His eyes look really really cool. But don't glow.)
That's reall it. The eyes don't glow, they reflect ambient light, like a cats. And seeing the cat's eyes starring out at me from under the bed was one of the scariest sights I beheld as a child...

I stand strong in my convictions. Also, the male blood elf in the Blasted Lands has glowing RED eyes. I didn't see an option for red eyes for the blood elves, so unfortunately, I probably won't be interested in rolling one.

The blood/high elf models currently in-game don't have glowing eyes at all. Vilmah, you're really confusing me on where you get this stuff from.
Vilmah

They all have bright lime green eyes. Maybe not glow-in-the-dark, but they kinda have a shimmery glow to them.

See, I still don't get where you're getting this from. The high elves currently have blue eyes, bright, like you said, but there are seperate textures for the blood elves, and their eyes are brown. I think that their eyes are much larger compared to the models of other races right now, and it gives an illusion as to their color.

Purple, actually.
See, the current models really suck, as they're just retexturing of the night elf ones.
And, Vilmah, I'm not talking about the new models. The ones we have currently are what I'm referring to.
Vilmah

Those ones don't glow, nor are they the models Blizzard ever originally wanted for them, as, like I said, they are just retextures of the night elf ones. It's been something they've said from the beginning of WoW.
If we wanted to get really technical, this is what they should look like.

We never had seen orc, troll, gnome, or dwarf females before WoW. It's not up to us to interpretate what the races should look like, and then going to complain about it is just childish.

That's fine. But if the NPCs have them, why can't the playable characters? It doesn't make sense.
Fallacy
10-19-2006, 10:59 AM
You can't choose the eye color for any of the races now. Why should blood elves be so special?
And, really, I don't think it would matter in our cases. It's all game mechanics, right? We're roleplayers, we don't care about that.
Vilmah
10-19-2006, 11:03 AM
Yes you can. Orcs can have blue, brown, hazel, and so can trolls.
Aquizit
10-19-2006, 11:08 AM
But that all depends what -face- you choose, so if you don't like the face, but you like the eye color.. then you're screwed. In -any- case, I don't see why it's such a huge deal. You'll be looking at the back of your character's head more often than not anyway and won't even -see- your own eyes.
Less arguing please. >.>
Vilmah
10-19-2006, 11:11 AM
It's not really an argument, and I don't even care anymore. I just thought it was weird that there was no option.
Keraph

The BE models in BC do not change from having green eyes despite face setting or skin color. The males don't change at all, while the females have a slight variance in the green.

How come the black chick didn't make it?? If you'll notice, there's an option for an Asian female face... but nothing else. You can't make a character actually look like a Black or Hispanic person because all of the facial features are Caucasian. Farthest you can go is Indian/West Asian-y. I wonder why they got rid of the African facial features?? Weird. It looks good on that model.
Alucian
10-20-2006, 09:58 AM
Well, she isn't technically a "playable character", if I'm correct on what these models were. It seems like they were the first round of NPC models Blizzard made. Honestly, I wish you could play as her, cause she's friggin hot. She's also a repaint of the original "Sorceress" model, the one with the blue eyeshadow all over the top half of their faces. As for why none of the models now allow for Afrian features...I have no idea. It would definitely add a little more variety to the game.
The blacksmith on the right would also look better if I caught her with her eyes open.
Also...I want their armor, dammit! >:V
