So! Last time an expansion hit, I was on a PvE server, and the Horde and the Alliance just waved to each other as we crossed the portal, and hugged and kissed and threw flowers and released doves and ... anyway.
I have no idea what to expect when Northrend opens. What were things like here on TN when BC opened up? Did Twisting Nether even exist before BC? Should I plan to get murdered every five steps?

Azeroth side of the portal was a bloodbath. Hellfire not so much. Most people were power leveling. I expect about the same.

Yeah, people were concerned more with leveling and seeing the new content than pvp at the time. There were obvious exceptions, but you were relatively safe while questing. The other side was more apt to help you out than kill you, at least in hellfire.
Lasted about 5-7 days, then it was back to business as usual.
(At least that was my experience, your mileage may vary.)

Here we go. Unlike BC, Horde and Alliance will have their own separate places to go to Northrend, ie Zepplins for Horde, boats for Alliance.
From what I have seen on Beta, Warsong Hold/Valliant Keep [I think] are where most of the questing/pvp/ganking happens. However, if you go to the UC zep and go to Howling Fjord, it seems to be less ganking/PVPing. Just something I have noticed because of the quest stuff.

Kelven, you're Grim... you are going to annihilate each and every Alliance you run into.
When Burning Crusade came out; I was rolling around with Grainger, and the first day we got about 160 kills. 120 of that were little girls who wouldn't fight back... but now in they are the d-bags who don't RP and camp low-level zones (crai we r undur pact 2 nto attk! Mes a Jar-Jar Binks!)
Northrend is a little better thought out concerning more 'faction specific' areas in the zones... but we'll mix and match - and then it will be a bloodbath! Unless you are like, four or five paladins. Then you guys can go on ahead - I can't kill four or five people ten or eleven times in one sitting.

I'll happily attack any Ally I stumble across. The unfortunate thing is that prot pally PvP is a lot like sealing yourself in concrete and hoping your enemy dies of old age before he manages to chisel you free.

I was going to say that watching Kel try to kill things would be a fun kind of past time for the next... half an hour...

I will delight in killing Fynne when he is level 75 and I am 80, for he has a real life, and I have none.

I imagine people will be camping those making a DK for a main like me... shouldn't matter though. I'm good enough at getting out of that crap.

This is what makes the people who play said hero class become... well... good at their class.

QFT.
If you are going to QQ about your DK getting camped and ganked, you shouldn't have survived the weeding of good and bad in Acherus. Deathknights live by natural selection.
Quite literally, let the better death knight win.
EDIT--VVV
I meant lore-wise, Advurb. Any DK can make it through those quests, sheesh. But lore wise? There is a high chance of getting killed off.

Well you can't touch each other until you finish Acherus anyway, so 5 levels are trivial in that regard.

3 levels. Starter quests take you to 58.
And technically you can still duel, and do so for your PvP trinket. I mean sure, you could defeat the NPCs but where is the fun in that?

Plaguelands is going to be the bigger hellfire, since that's where all the DK's are getting dropped off... right by Light's Hope Chapel.
They're really going to have to beef up the guards, me thinks... then again, the guards in every town have been long overdue for an upping in levels. Kind of a joke that most in most places they're still 45 non-elites, and the only elite in most areas is the flightmaster.

THIS!
BC opening was awesome. I'd be killing stuff with three hordies. Three alliance would show up and I'd start fighting them while the hordies just did their own thing and get smoked.
Me to hordies: "Why did you not kill those human scum?"
Hordies: "Dude, we just want to level."
I died a lot those first few days while horde stood by
Bastards.
That story made my sides hurt from laughing.... I remember my first day of BC.
I saw Beggan
I ganked Beggan
I got whispered by a level 1 Horde alt about how much Beggan was going to make my life on BC a living hell.
I never seen Beggan again.

Horde and Alliance DKs are split up while doing the first quests. If you don't want to, you never have to see an enemy until you're done.

I killed him once in Nagrand on my druid. That was the only time I ever saw him in BC.
Good times.

Yeah Beggan was pretty much horrible.
Now that arena requires some skill he can't ambush/vanish/ambush/vanish/ambush anymore.

I miss Beggan. Regardless of skill or lack thereof, he was fun XD All this talk of Blackrock Mountain camping due to the BRD seasonal boss made me think of him XD
I remember in BCs release, the whole "HORDE/ALLIANCE TRUCE FOR 1 WEEK" or whatever. And it DID lead to Horde not helping when either we were attacking Alliance or Alliance were attacking us, cause they didn't want to get involved. Lamesauce. People are dying in Northrend, courtesy of Infection. And of course the Grim.
Grimfection.

when the portal event happend and the gate open it wasnt like that here...
I remember going thru blastedlands and reaching the gate and there was nothing but bones....everywhere. On the other side it was NPC's verse the demons and pit lord and players vs players for a week.

I have a feeling DKs might be a neutral faction class in an RP sense when they're made...well for RPers that is. They are all there for the same cause so why should a KD kill his own brother?
After they leave and head out into the world and horde get thralls blessing and alliance gets theres it will go back to faction vs faction for DKs imo (for me atleast).

They're also dropped off surrounded by guards and within walking distance of a flight path that can take them straight towards the Dark Portal. As soon as the opening quest chains are done, DKs are more than capable of waltzing straight into Hellfire by the masses.
This is why Hellfire is such a gank-fest on the beta realms, though it's usually just ret paladins that seem to do the ganking. Go figure.

what will be funny is seeing 4 DKs lfg for HFC XD. wotlkwiki has pics of a 5man DK group beating HFC so we'll see since DK's have some nice healing going on in the blood or unholy tree (i saw a vid of a belf unholy DK questing in outland and she was weak and did this spell to cause enemies to heal her as they were attacking her and she just stood there until she had full health again...so OP)

You sure that was a DK thing? I used to do that while levelling, there's a trinket that heals you every time you block for a given period of time. I would pick up a big crowd of things, blow the trinket and watch as they pummeled me back to full health.

Yeah, I don't know where that "one week truce" came from. I think that was fabricated by the sissy ass raiding guilds and gankers so they didn't get their ass handed to them on an 'equal' playing level.
Then again, PvP was far different at the beginning of Burning Crusade than it is now. It will be interesting... and I hope for the Alliance's sake they pick the "other side" to where I am. I love questing and I love reading stuff - but I am obligated by my character's Forsaken heritage and dedication to an immersive environment to kill you if you don't run away from me.
No camping. No griefing. But if you see me coming and you don't drop what you are doing and run like a girl - you are getting my five pixel boot to your butt. Unless, of course - you are a paladin. Then I'll stab you until you bubble and lay on hands, then I will gouge you and vanish and live to fight another day. I beat you twice, nah nah!
...
On a less confrontational note, I was exploring the two starter zones - it is far better made than Hellfire Peninsula. The Peninsula was fun; but it pretty much was two halves of the same thing. Borean Tundra and ... uh... that other place; a lot less of that; still some, but a lot less.
Not to mention cliffs. Lots and lots of cliffs.

I LOVED that "truce!" I would roll into the Badlands and kill 4 people before they even knew what was happening. Then I'd get irate tells from people asking me if I was trying to start a war?
I always said yes, congratulations, you've just been conscripted Pal.
