Karkarov

Just thought I would share this with you guys. I met GM nygaln yesterday as a result of a couple names I reported. He was a nice guy and RP'ed the entire encounter. I had so much fun with it I even tried to hit him up for some free god beer! Below is just a pick of the conversation... wish I had thought to log it BEFORE it got good instead of messing it up. But oh well. My main regret is he actual emotes handing me what he calls [Nygalns Potent Nether Drink] or something to that effect. Obviously not a real item but cool none the less.... here is the pic.

PS: He also made the comment at the start of the conversation that "The twisting nether had treated him well lately" coincidence or was he in the know? Unfortunately we have no way to tell muahahaha.

Man, Karkarov... you butcher the Dwarf-speak in WoW, you know that?
----------------------
Vhorik: "Aye, lad! If'n ah didn't know better, ah'd say he's jus' makin fun of me speakin voice. Durn poser! Whar's me boomstick?!" *slams fist on bar* "Achk! An someone's stole me beer! When ah get me hands on whoever---"
Barkeep: "Vhorik! Stifle yer wee self already, aye? Your brew is in your hand!"
Vhorik: "...so it be! It's a miracle, ah'm tellin ya!"
-----------------------
The key is to still have the Dwarven accent, but still allow it to be readable without getting a headache. If you go re-spelling too much of what you say, it becomes more like l33t speak and hard to read and you lose the key parts of the Dwarven accent.

I have no idea what you said, because upon reading it, I had to stop halfway and rub my eyes.
"Thank ya fer your contructive post thar, ya young, long-eared priss! Now go over thar and dance with some trees er kiss a flower er sumpin!"
That's how it should be typed, to be both Dwarven and READABLE BY OTHERS!

Psh. All a good dwarf accent requires is a little patience and someone who gives a damn. :D Kudos, by the way...I can never do accents, I'm easily distracted, can never keep it consistant, ect. I'm a little bit Brit as it is, and I suppose that's all that comes through. That's just me being...a weird american.
Ya persnickity little git, you.

Hehe.
Well, to be frank the reason I decided to have an intervention with poor Kark here, was not because I want to criticize and say "I'm right, you're wrong." On the contrary, I'm trying to save everyone who rp's with him a headache. Normally, I'd say "talk how you want." But, there's a difference between roleplaying an accent and butchering chat to a point where it becomes unreadible or you're re-spelling words for no reason. Not every stinkin word needs to be re-spelled. It's starting to look like chat-speak.

((Actually, I have a low level dwarf rogue somewhere who has such a strong accent that it would almost be easier for him to speak in dwarven and get a translator.))

You base your accent off Cockney, Garbhan? Sounds more like that than Scottish or Irish. Very colorful.

Russian accents can work well for Dwarves too. Though partucularly female ones. There was an awesome RPer called Velda on my old server who had a catchphrase "Dvarf joke is best joke", or "Dvarf pie is best pie" or "Dvarf lovin is best lovin" ... you get the idea.

:Shrugs: Me neither. Karkarov's character cracks me up a lot. It's not so much that he's always funny, it's just that I can hear the voice and the accent in my head so clearly.
One half of my family is scottish, and I'll tell you this, if a non-scottish person can understand what they're saying, then it's not a true scottish accent.

After having long, excruciating conversations with Chavie, Kark's speech is as simple as Common to me XD
