Let's hear some ideas!

We need an angle first.. what's our cause? Why are we banded together?

With such a diverse character selection, that'll be a really tough decision. We've got good characters, evil characters, crazy characters.....and Zusteakai. Quite the odd lot, if you ask me!

Though I believe a good place to start as well is - what makes a rank? Since we are alts, rank is mostly an RP thing... or maybe some sort of reward system? Tie it in to contribution here on the Gazette... RP stories... level... or possibly a mere "title," with everybody but Mortica and her cronies being on equal balance - and the 'ranks' are merely tradeskills and/or positions.
Like... squads. Or possibly expertise.

I believe that would also be kind of cool.

I was hoping for ranks to be replaced by affiliation, so we can cover the different temperaments and goals in the guild.

I'm for Niethan's idea. This doesn't seem like it's actually too much of an organized guild of like minded individuals, so mayhaps rank divisions are best served to differentiate character types. For instance, all those that voted for the Nether Regiment type could be placed under there (and subsequently become associated with all that implies).

I like Niethans idea too. Standard guilds have a vertical rank structure, but we're not standard. Lets make factions in the guild.

I agree wholeheartedly with the above idea. It shall make our guild much more mature and unique.
Now for some pie...

I agree that a faction based ranking is a great idea

Brom and I were talking today, in character, and we RPed that we were in the guild, but that we really didn't know much past that. To us, it seemed like there were certain people that had been drawn together for unknown reasons (the guildies of course), and that there was some kind of mystery behind all this.
We decided, in character, to work together to see what was behind this, and since the people in the group seemed to be from different racial and emotional backgrounds, we'd help those who needed help and try to discover the purpose behind all this.
Now I know this sounds like it doesn't have much to do with ranks, but if someone wants to come up with a good reason why we are all drawn together in one group, it could make for a massively fun storyline....
Perhaps our ranks are given to us by the person running the guild, for reasons that we won't even find out about til later....

Aquizit isn't happy about the ... riffraff he's been paired up with, but that's all the more reason he applied as an officer. To whip these blasphemers and heratics into shape. Turn them to the Light, to crush our enemies abroad.

I suggest in order to avoid drama within the guild, officers should not have any 'In Character' power, or possibly even be seen as officers in character.
We need officers for various administrative purposes, representation and the odd, unfortunate, dispute. Having officers roleplayed in any form is likely to lead to first IC discord, and later OOC discord. Especially due to the fact that we have such an eclectic group of misfits.
This is shaping up to be a fairly large guild, and we'll have to start preparing for the things any normal guild faces. Avoiding drama is a big deal that can decide whether we're still having fun with this in months to come or have splintered off into a bunch of bickering shards.

I'm also for Neithan's idea, and not so much for the "Mysterious circumstances" idea, just seems a bit too odd. Anyways, just my two cp.

Actually, I had kind of assumed we were doing the affiliations things..so when I asked for ranks, I meant affiliation names ;)
Aquizit

Perhaps.. there should be one officer from each of the .. "affiliations" the head of each group..
It'd be like Congress during an officer meeting.. or Parlament, which is worse. o.o;;
As for affiliation names..
I can only go for what Aquizit is.. Extremist... Fanatical.. Intolerant
He's definitely not evil.. but he's not... all-accepting either.
Oo! Oo! ... Conservative.
