View Full Version : I have an embarrassing problem...

I am expecting a few jibes over this one :P
Before the last big patch, every female character I rolled would have a male combat voice and would emit masculine "grunts" when hit by npcs. The 11.1 patch fixed this. However, the mini patch today brough it back and I am grunting away again like before.
Just really asking the more tech savvy here if this could be something on my end I can fix, and if not if anyone else has had this issue (and if you do please report it!)

Ok, I've seen someone else complaining about this a while back on the Tech Support forums. Not even the GMs seemed to believe them. This is the second time I've heard it though.
Since it's not affecting other players, I can only surmise that it is an issue with your specific instalation. Maybe a re-install? If you could do a full format of your PC and re-install it would be even better.
Failing that, ticket a Gm... and keep the shaver handy in the meantime...

I was afriad of that. My discs happen to be 3000 miles away from me right now. Haha. I will figure something out.
What will I lose from a re-install exactly (WTF folder etc?) Just making a list of what needs backing up.

Any and all mods you have will be gone and you will need to download close to 200 mb in patch data.

The other option you could try is to remove all mods you've installed, remove the contents of your WDB and WTF folder completely. You can simply 'move' the contents of these folders somewhere else and move them back if it doesn't fix anything.
If this fixes things, start copying your mods back again one by one untill they're all there and you have no problems. Failing that, you should figure out if it's one of your addons that's causing it.

An addon causing a female elf to sound like a male elf... what addon could that be... what can you add to a female to make her a male? I know! *wink wink*

I knew that "Pelvic enhancement" Add on was a bad idea. :P
Back to seriousness. I am running the repair tool first, that I was going to peel away add-ons and such. I have a question about how WoW repairs itself too.
I am used to SOE MMOs where everything is downloaded through the "launchpad". If you have a file missing, it will automatically be re-downloaded as it scans the files when you start it up. If I were to say...delete the male night elf voice.mp3 or even the character model MPQ would that bugger my install up even more, or would the repair tool download it again (hopefully uncorrupted)?

Did you try posting about this on the WoW Technical Forums? It's still business hours now, so you might get a blue response. If not, maybe someone else who had this problem will give you the solution.
Good luck with it! That must be annoying!

Alas, I posted it on the tech forums, and the last time I had it too, but it soon ends up on page 17643 because everyone is making new threads about druid's furour talent not working properly.

It's possible, even though I have no idea how, that your "female night elf hit" sound got replaced. If this is the case, you could perhaps use "MyWarcraftStudio", http://www.curse-gaming.com/en/wow/addons.html, to search your data files. Search, logically, the sound.mpq. I forget if Studio can extract files, but it probably can. In any rate, try to find that file and see if there's anything odd about it. Perhaps I could direct you from there.

UPDATE:
It is an add on causing this. I like to make my boyfriend work so I made him roll out a female gnome and go kill something on his comp with his account. We have %90 of the same add ons and he informs me that his lovely cutr female gnome let out a big male "YAAA".
Thanks for the troubleshooting help guys :) I can now just isolate the offending add on and fix it.

The conflicting add on for me was click heal, so if anyone knows of a similar add on (or a fix) I would be grateful :)
