Many of the people I RP with are sick of BG's for various reasons. I also read a post here about the nature of the conflict between horde and alliance which points out that in a battle there is less invested emotion as far as outcomes simply because you can run right back and rez, guards are replenished, etc. I've been thinkin for a bit and I have an idea.

What if they made a large BG, bigger than AB, with no npcs. Say 30 vs 30. The games would be short though. Each side will have a base a la WSG (but a real base, i.e. defensiible.) Each player can rez 3 times in the BG. Once the three rezzes are done, that player is dead. Something of that nature would make the players use decent tactics and maybe use some techniques other than "rush in swinging". I realize this is a very unpolished idea but the basic premise (you're not immortal) seems like it would be interesting. I'm not suggesting Diablo II style hardcore mode or anything, just a hardcore battleground pehaps? What do you think?

Lets kick this idea around a bit, I'd like to hear why it is or is not practical and/or fun. Any suggestions would be great.

I don't think that will fly with most people. It makes alot of sense and I like the idea of having limited abilities to rez and it will force people to work together. But very few would queue for it basically because "it is too hard"

I like the three strikes and you're out idea. My bf and I have been discussing how the lack of death penalty in WoW makes for a very apathetic community. Players do not act responsibly sometimes because death really is no big deal. There is no sense of needing to preserve thier life at all costs. Compare this to corpse runs, even shard runs, unrepairable item decay, loss of items/money, and experience debt as seen in other traditional MMOs. In my expereince, a higher penalty on death makes people work together, look out for eachother and be responsible for their own actions. We have been trying to figure out why the WoW community is so very different to other MMO communities we have seen over the years, and there are several factors as to why, but the "death means nothing" attitude is a significant one. Would be interesting to see how the three death and out rule would go, if only to prove or disprove our theory :p

Interesting idea, but one of the things I love about BGs IS that I can just chage in swinging... in AV I useually rack up 20+ deaths, its awesome. No corpse run, just back to life and fighting right away. But you are right about it forcing people to work together. But, most people would just leave after they were "dead dead", and it would be no fun if you were horde cuz pallys would just own at that type of battle. Maybe if you automatically left the battleground after you "Died" and recived any bounus honor your team had earned, then got another dish of bonus honor and rep if your team won the battle even after you "died." And no base is truely defensible without some NPCs. Like archer NPCs maybe, and nothing else and it would work.

I also think that there should be no PVE death penalty, such as exp loss. It sucks. I played runescape a long time ago, dieing really was so stupid in that game. Thats one thing that really struck me about WoW, just a pain in the butt corpse run and I could get back to what I was doing.
