IFR Head-Quarters Ironforge
Sir,
I have the honor to report the actions of the Regiment in the battle of the 5th instant. The regiment mustered at Ironforge at 9:30 IF time, and proceeded to the Alterac Valley with the strength of three squadrons. Emerging from the mouth of a large cave at the north side of the valley, we were ordered to mount and follow Lieutenant Livingstone. Through the wily guidance of the good Lieutenant, we evaded the enemy’s patrols and drew reins at the rear of the enemy’s post at Ice Blood. A sharp fight ensued and the enemy’s guards and a Lieutenant of the post were killed. We entered the post and engaged the post commander. The Horde however, had been alerted to our presents and soon a relief force launched an assault to save their commander. The Regiment was driven back with some loss.
Reforming at Stormpike, a gallant assault was launched to prevent the Horde from taking the Icewing Bunker, and after a brief but sharp fight, the bunker was lost and Regiment retired under heavy pressure to the vicinity of Stormpike. The area was well suited to defense with its narrow entrance road confining the enemy to one avenue of attack. Here the regiment galvanized for a last stand and the enemy was held in check for an hour. They made several flanking efforts, coming around through the graveyard, but all efforts here were defeated.
At one point, they enemy charged in mass up the road to try to capture the pass and secure the bridge over the canyon. A desultory and sanguine melee resulted, leaving the area strewn with the bodies of both sides. The Horde were just barely driven back, giving the Alliance a few minutes respite.
With the stalemate at the pass, a plan was devised to flank the enemy and again assault the enemy’s southern garrisons. The regiment mounted and ran the gauntlet south, arriving in the vicinity of the Ice Blood Tower. While a storming party entered the tower, others spread out around to prevent any reinforcement from interfering. It was at this point that word reached us that the AV General had been killed and any further efforts on out part were futile. The Regiment returned to Ironforge for rest and refit.
I must commend all involved, at no time did I see any Regiment soldier shirking their duty or sulking in the rear. Axes high!
