View Full Version : Prevalence of Interest in Storylines

It often seems to me that most storylines seem to gain little in the way of widespread interest; characters will brush against each other, for lack of a better term, but for the most part I've seen character storyarcs remain singular and isolated.

Is this a common occurance, or am I just never at the right place and time?

It seems to be the norm. The person who started the 'Cult of the Damned' storyline in game tried to get several horde and alliance guilds and players involved. After trying for a while, the only people willing to get involved were Malebrignon and Sanctuary. In fact, some of the replies from Alliance side were actually downright rude. It was intended to be a sweeping, server wide storyline, but due to the lack of interest it didn't take off.

If you're ever wanting to run a large scale story, count Sanctuary in, we'll make time for it and do our best to find a way to fit our RP angle in with it.

We're quite awesome, that way. =D

You can always give us a heads-up Alliance side, the Thorns and Roses. We love RP! Rawrawrawrwr. Just send me a PM or leave a note on our forums, whatever you want.

EDIT: To address that, really, you've got the general handle on things. Most storylines tend to stay isolated. Sometimes it's due to people's own privacy levels in the storyline, but sometimes it's just people's general apathy when it comes to joining in in other people's roleplay. I know recently, Barke was throwing out his storyline, asking those in the Alliance OOC channel to roleplay with him to shape it.

I was refering more towards character development over events, but it's good to know there's support for it.

Everyone pretty much knows my character.

He's Exalted with half the Horde, revered with the others.

His history, his command, and his presence are all known by both factions.

If someone wants to meet him, it's usually not hard to find him.

A wee bit of the problem is that in order for there to be a story with meat to it, there usually needs to be a conflict of some sort. That usually means with the enemy. In-game, we cannot talk to the enemy. This has been one of the more difficult hurdles in creating RP involving opposite factions that can be played in game and not just written as fan-fiction.

We've used an interpretor via extra account and two boxing, but even that is very tedious.

My favorite RP story arcs involve good guilds against evil guilds and the web of storys that spring up between the members of those two or more guilds. Can't do that in game here with the opposing faction due to the communication problems. This reduced this kind of rp down to fan-fiction RP wince crosss-faction communication is difficult at best.

Singular as much of the story arcs are, however, there are very, very good. TN has great RPers in this community.

Am I making sense? I really shouldn't read these boards till after I've had my morning tea.

I was refering more towards character development over events, but it's good to know there's support for it.

More than just support, some actively pursue this in their characters.

For example, Upae's very existence is a direct result of a long line of stories involving various guilds/individuals from both factions. I hope for that to continue, as she starts to interact with the world in her new form..

If her memories of her past life as the troll huntress Lupa start to resurface, that could open any number of possibilities, but I think I'll be limiting those memories to a degree.

My alt, Grooda, is the niece of Malebrignon's in-game best friend, Dagda.

Dagda disappeared (both in-game and out) many months ago. Grooda heard about his disappearance and abandoned her training prematurely to go search for him. It's given her a Skywalker-like headstrong attitude without all the whiny emo stuff also associated with that name.

She's not the only one. Another guildy has an orc named "Fwed", who may or may not be Dagda's son.

Now I wish I hadn't read this. I miss that guy so much.

Note that, as I have just thought of this thanks to the "enhil" thread.. I advise SPELLING THE NAME RIGHT

Still have no freaking clue how Zusteakai hit the 'K' key instead of the 'S' key

In my experience things like that just sorta... happen randomly. It's hard. The trick that I've seen is to write about your encounters with randoms.

Also there is the issue of communication. I can only speak for myself but the General WoW forum of TNG is out of character and this is the only place I ever heard anything about this sweeping storyline Grisch mentioned. Participation in a channel, or reading obscure RP posts/all rp posts on the forums, shouldnt be needed if you are really looking to get alot of people involved. It is on the person hosting the event to get the word out, no one is going to come looking for something when they dont know anything is there.
