Kethryvaris

The last thing she remembered seeing was Kiara's beautiful face, looking down at her...The woman's hands covered in scarlet blood. Her blood. Kethry smiled...She had kept her promise. Her last words to Kiara were that of thanks, and a quiet, but no less meaningful, "I love you." Her last thought was that at least she got to be with Kiara, just once...And she felt herself go limp in the other woman's arms...Saw Kiara's tears, the way she held her...Kethry smiled sadly, whispering, "I'm so sorry, darling...I will come back to you, I promise..." although she knew she could not be heard.

As she felt herself slipping away, she heard the voice of her Goddess calling to her...

When Kethry opened her eyes, she was standing in a field full of flowers. Across it, was a hooded, star-eyed figure. Seeming to have the attention of even the flowers.

You have done well, child...Do you have any questions for me?

Kethry's response was almost instant, anger burning inside her, as her hand drifted to her now barren womb. She bowed her head and spoke in a tone that bore no argument. Probably not the smartest way to talk to a deity, but Keth was never too bright on religious matters.

"Yes...Why did you take our child? Why? I don't understand. It wasn't fair! It wasn't right! It did nothing to you!"

It was necessary, love. The child's loss will make you stronger. It will drive you in all you do, to succeed. You have been lax, lately. Gone is your fire. I broke you to light you up again. You will burn, Kethryvaris. You will feel true passion, again. I am not sorry. It needed to be done. You had to learn.

"That was a piss poor way of teaching me something, Mi'Lady."

You will see what I mean in time, Child. I do nothing without a reason. You will have other children, you *do* have other children...Do not forget this. At your lonliest, do not forget that. This will save you, someday.

"What? I will have...Others...?" Kethry's mind raced at that information, before she replied "...Yes, Mi'Lady. I will remember..." with a nod.

You will suffer great loss, Kethryvaris. This is not the first. But you will know great joy. I promise you this. You will think that you cannot handle any more loss, at times. Know this, Kethry...If you choose not to go back to your unlife, to stay here with me; your friends; your loves...Will come to me as well, and quicker than what they would if you went back. When you think you can handle no more, please; remember that it will be worth it. A wave of love and acceptance washed over the young girl then, and she smiled.

"As long as there is joy to taper the grief."

Oh, there will be plenty of it. Are you ready to go back, then? I did make you a promise. I intend to keep it. The hodded, star-eyed figure looked down at the younger girl before taking her into her arms.

I love you, my child. You are beautiful. Always remember this. Despite what some may call you.

A kiss, then. Not even of passion, romance. The purest love in its purest form. Death held her child, one of her most tragic loves yet, as if she were spun glass...hating to let the girl go, but she had much yet to accomplish, and now was not her time...

As Kethry looked into the star-filled eyes, she felt herself being tugged backward, it seemed...

And awoke, surprisingly whole...If not freezing cold...In the arms of one Kiara Windsong.

*Kethry took a quick glance at what she could of herself without waking Kiara. Her old scars were back, marking her as the Forsaken she had been. The shiny healed burn marks, the keloid scars from the cuts she had made in her own skin...*

Kethry sighed, cuddling close to Kiara, thankful that all had been put right again...

Tomorrow was going to be interesting...That was for certain.
