My 360 came back today from the service center (I was able to send it in because I apparently HAD filled out all the warranty stuff) today. It's only been 3 weeks and had to travel interstate so I'm actually quite impressed with how quickly it was fixed.
Got it plugged in and all up and running... and it tells me on the dashboard that my 360 now needs to download a software upgrade?
I'm kinda baffled by this because it's not just a service update but a "software" upgrade, and it wouldn't let me do anything until it was finished. Once it was done I got curious and checked out the 'hull' of my 360. Sure enough, it's got a different I.D. code on it than when I first sent it out, but it's still got the same casing.
Turns out EVERYTHING in my 360 was replaced. It's actually running quieter, has the chip from the Elite sitting inside it, and a little spot hidden under the faceplate that's covered by a sticker for some unknown purpose. I checked in with Australian support and gave them my customer I.D. and they basically told me that all 360's received in their store for repairs now, rather than being replaced by simply refurbished innards, have been replaced by brand new hardware right from the word go. They didn't even TRY to repair my 360. They basically just took out its brain and replaced it with a new one.
It's actually quite cool, it's even running quieter and not nearly as hot as it used to. It has these new power saving modes that were never there before I sent it out... I'm quite stoked it broke down now!
