Alphonse sipped his warm cup of water as he leaned his back on the wooden wall that was a horse caravan. The man next to him sneezed as he pulled a woolen blanket closer to his chin. A women next to him coughed silently as she tried to breastfeed two little twin baby boys. Alphonse took another sip of water then offered it to the women.
"You look exhausted, this will help" he whispered. The women went red and nudged her head down to the suckling twins. Alphonse grinned and very gently he picked up the nearest boy, tugging away carefully so he wouldn't damage the women.
"Thank you" she said as he took the water and began to drink it. Alphonse nodded his head and began to cradle the boy as he sniffed and silently wailed for his mother's milk. Lifting a gloved hand he slowly placed it over the boy's forehead and patted it slightly making the boy gurgle and go silent.
"I can take him back now." came the voice of the mother. Alphonse look up, shocked to hear the women's voice but he smiled and handed back the child to the women. "You seem to be good with children." said the mother as she placed the two boys into a large basket and covering them with a blue blanket.
"When my brother was little, I used to treat him like that all the time, of course he needed it." whispered Alphonse. The women laughed slightly as she adjusted the rim of her shirt to cover her breasts. Alphonse hadn't even realized her bare chest and made sure he wouldn't. "I presume those two are yours?" he asked. "Yes" said the women. "They were only born a month ago and they are quite the handful." She looked over at the two boys to check if they were sleeping and then she came back up and faced Alphonse.
"I suppose the father has stayed with the milita?" he asked. The women went silent and gave a slight nod. "He insisted he should stay and defend are home in Andorhal, many of the fathers and eldest son stayed infact."Alphonse nodded in agreement. "Many of my own friends stayed to hold the ground at Caer Darrow."
"Then why didn't you stay with them?" said a voice.
Alphonse and the women look to see the man in the blanket staring at them with dark eyes.
